Demons show off air attack
It is starting to look like football season again.
The Memorial Stadium parking lot was full and the stands were packed while the Dodge City High School football team put on its annual Watermelon Scrimmage on Friday. The Dodge City players suited up under the lights and participated in the intrasquad scrimmage for about an hour. “The biggest thing is we got a lot of game-speed reps,” DCHS head coach Dave Foster said. “Hopefully on film we see a lot of improvement over what we had a week ago. That was our biggest thing. It is about the journey and getting better each and every week.”
Demons start practice
The first football practice of the Dave Foster era began under a cloudy sky Monday at Dodge City High School. “It went great,” Foster said about the practice. “We have a great group of kids coming back from last year’s team. And you add in some kids that didn’t play and a good incoming freshman class, it is definitely an exciting time for Dodge City football.
“We got a lot of work to do, don’t get me wrong. By no means do we come out and be great on day one. I felt like things were structured and the kids progressed.” Foster took turns working with the varsity.
Foster hired to lead Demons
After screening 60 applicants, Dodge City High School has settled on a new football coach. On Monday evening, the USD 443 Board of Education approved the hiring of Dave Foster, formerly the head football coach at Elk City, Okla., the past eight seasons. Foster replaces former DCHS head coach Justin Burke, who led the Red Demons to an 8-3 record and their first Class 6A state playoff victory since 1994 season. Burke resigned in February after it was learned he violated Kansas State High School Activities Association regulations by conducting a football practice within a physical education class. Foster, 37, is a former Fort Hays State University football player (1990-93). He guided Elk City to the Class 4A state high school playoffs in Oklahoma in five of the last six seasons.
